ChildCry sponsors a church in India that has several feeding programs around the ancient city of Varanasi. There are large numbers of homeless children in this area, including the “railway kids” that live along local railway tracks, and children in remote villages who do not have access to daily meals.
A team of volunteers from the local church prepares food and brings it directly to children living on the railway tracks. Sometimes, on special occasions or holidays, the children are brought to the pastor’s home for a meal.
In the villages, children attend a school started by the church. They eagerly learn basic lessons for the day before sitting down to a meal together. Many of the kids bring their own “Tiffin”, or lunchbox to take food home with them.
A typical meal in both locations can include rice, egg curry, chapatti, roti, mixed vegetables, and beans.
