ChildCry works with a local Christian NGO in the central plateau region of Haiti that has been actively ministering to the area for over 25 years. Among other things, the ministry is currently supporting 13 schools supported by various local churches.
ChildCry has partnered with several organizations to ensure that children attending school receive at least one meal a day, typically things like rice and beans, dried fish, garlic, tomato sauce and spices.
Food is purchased in bulk at a central location at the cheapest price available and then distributed to the outlying locations. Many of the sites are in remote areas and lack kitchens, so the cooks prepare the food over an open flame outdoors. Every location is outfitted with a secure storage center to safeguard against theft.
Seeing children able to focus on both school work and play without being hungry makes the effort worth it!
