After more than 20 years of war, there are many orphans in Afghanistan. In keeping with Afghan family culture, children are sometimes taken in by close relatives. Sadly, this is not always possible.
ChildCry serves alongside a local Afghan organization to provide naan for boys aged 5-16 living in an orphan home in Northern Afghanistan.
Every day, two of the older boys from the home pick up 100 freshly baked naan loaves from a local bread maker. Each naan is shared into four pieces–enough for breakfast and lunch for all the boys in the home. Local government funding supplies meat and tea for the boys to eat with their naan.
